We got to the Big Island on schedule. This is a low traffic route so we got the little bitty propeller driven plane seating about 36 people. The overhead compartments were very small so we had to use the under seat storage for our carry-ons. Thank goodness it was only a 30 minute flight. After the usual Alamo hassle, we got the car and were on our way.
The condo was 18 miles from the airport in the Waikoloa Village (WV) development. The WV is a collection of Marriott and Hilton Resorts, golf courses, shopping malls, restaurants, filling stations, and condos. It is like a completely self contained city. We have a very nice condo overlooking the water. The Hali'i Kia condos are managed by Centex which is the same company who managed the Oahu condo we stayed at. As was the case in Oahu, the condo is fairly new and very high quality. It should be for the price. My only complaint so far is the ugly lava that partially blocks our view of the ocean. The condo on Maui is still the winner as far as best ocean view. We will miss that. We did see a whale jump completely out of the water right in front of the condo almost as soon as we walked in the first time. Nice welcome.
Dinner was at the WV Macaroni Grill. It was very good but almost sinful to eat Italian in Hawaii.
More later.
