We departed Oahu at 11:00 am today on Hawaiian Airlines. By 11:40, we were on the ground in Maui. We had lunch at Dragon Dragon, a very nice Chinese restaurant, on the way to the condo. We were at the condo by 3:00 pm and ready to relax. As you can see, the condo is right on the water at Maalaea Bay in the Lauloa Resort Complex. We have a fabulous view of the water and the other side of the island. Later that evening, we had drinks and a little more to eat at Beach Bums Bar & Grill which is just down the street at the pier where all the excursion boat dock.
The dormant volcano, Haleakala, is just across the bay from us. What a magnificent sight it is at 10,000+ feet, all from sea level. The 14,000 ft peaks in Colorado typically start from a base of 8,000 feet, so they only appear to be 6,000 ft high. The cone of Haleakala is pretty spread out so it doesn't have dramatic slopes, but it is massive.
