S America/Antarctica - 12/28/2013 - At Sea - Rough Seas

It got a little rough at times on the cruise.  Fortunately, neither Sigrid or I really suffered from sea sickness.  Many passengers were sick and even the crew had a few people with sickness.  I am not sure that you ever get immune from sea sickness.  I do think that you get better at dealing with the constant motion of the ship with experience.  We selected a cabin near the center of the ship which minimizes the rocking and rolling.  The Zaandam is not a huge ship which means that it is more apt to move in rough seas than one of the monster ships would.

The ocean swells were up to 20 feet in height at times.  The deck of the ship is about 40 feet above calm sea level so you can see how big the swells are relative to the ship's deck in the video.  It is all part of the adventure on a ship.

The next post will be the long awaited Antarctica.
