Caribbean Cruise - Barbados - 1/1/2013 - Day 15

New Years Day we arrived at Bridgetown, Barbados.  I have to tell you that I was not impressed with Barbados and did not enjoy the tour that we took of the island.  For starters, it was a rainy day with somewhat limited visibility at times.  Then, Holland America loaded us on a bus that was like 3/4 sized and they filled every seat.  I am not a 3/4 sized person.  The arm rests on the bus did not fold up so Sigrid and I had to "shoe horn" our selves in to our seat throughout the day....very uncomfortable.  Then, to top that off, there really isn't much to see on the island.  Several of the historic places like the carved lion and Gun Hill Signal Station were drive-by's (the bus never stopped rolling).  To be honest, there wasn't much to see even if we stopped.  The tour description talked about the views of the coast line being a photographer's dream.  Even it it hadn't been raining, the views weren't that great.  We took fewer photos on Barbados than any other island.

There are nice resorts and exclusive shopping areas in a few areas along the coast.  Elton John has a house on the island that we drove past (maybe the most interesting thing on the island).  Why he picked Barbados is known only by him.

St John's Church was the first and one of the few stops on our driving tour.

One of those breath taking views advertised by the tour operator.

Our next stop was for a free tropical drink and a shopping opportunity.  I got the non-alcoholic fruit punch (the same stuff you can buy in stores here).  Sigrid got brave and got the little Dixie cup of Rum with fruit juice and sure didn't like it....no free second chances if you don't like what you selected.

Welcome to my beautiful island.

Tomorrow is Martinique....it has to be better.  In fairness to Barbados, I have to admit that the bus ride got me in a bad mood from the very start.
