Hawaii - Big Island Day 2 Resort Condo - January 5, 2023

Our previous day of travel had me wonder if it was worth the trip.  We were exhausted and frustrated last night as we hit the sack.  This morning we were up with the sun and could more easily see the beauty of our condo.  Before breakfast, we sat on the lanai and saw the lush green of the resort landscaping, the blue skies, and the sound of tropical birds.  Within five minutes, we realized that it was well worth the agony of getting here.  The four departure gate changes at the Seattle airport within an hour were forgotten.

Our Kolea Condo is a spacious two bedroom second floor unit. It is in the gated Waikoloa Beach Resort development.  The resort is huge with Hilton and Marriot Hotels, shopping centers, multiple golf courses, movie theaters, beaches, and restaurants.  Waikoloa is one of several high end beach resorts on the northwestern shores of the Big Island about 45 minutes north of Kona, Hawaii.  We rented the condo through VRBO.

Here are a few photos showing what we saw the first morning from our lanai.

The Common Mina birds were very vocal in the mornings as were the doves.

Plumeria flowers used for Hawaiian leis.

We saw a small animal running around the flower beds and assumed it was a squirrel.  It turns out that there are no squirrels in Hawaii and it was actually a Mongoose.

More of Day 3 in the next post.
